I wrote much in “Bloggers” over the past two days. It feels pretty good. I’ve hit no major snags, and many of the issues that might plague the plot seem to resolve themselves by the time I get that place. Let’s knock on wood.
I’m kinda missing “A Cat of a Different Color.” It’s not that I need it as a model; in fact the opposite of that is true. It was such a unique voice that it did tend to infect (inflect) me. Those in the know think the site might go back up one of these days.
The above two paragraphs are linked by one of the plot problems. If the story’s gonna work, you have to believe that Amy’s blog can catch on big time with the general public. Apart from the obvious fact that a percentage of people that are clamored for in the public eye have little in the way of talent, – Snooki Polizzi comes to mind – , a specifically literary talent might be not believable as a runaway success in the media markets. Look at other popular blogs out there, such as “Just Another Pixel,” and you find a lot of confessin,’ but not much good writin.’ The thing I’m hoping about Amy is that the controversy that gets to swirling around her situation builds up public interest in the way that a trapped miner story might. (She’s in West Virginia, after all.) Is she going to make it or not? Also, clever writing may not hurt a person’s popularity. She’s being written in an easy to read way. At a certain point, just up ahead, things will have to speed up time wise. The minute Scott catches on about the blog and the professor, she will have only a short time to keep going on with her life as it has been. It is the professor that gets her in trouble, gets her hit. Things will have to happen fast. Once she gets outed, she’ll have a breather, but she’ll accrue handlers. I don’t know exactly what it’s like to have handlers. I’ll have to really extrapolate that and not offer much detail.
A few miscellaneous research projects have broken out around here. Del’s pounding away over there about the tea party (the tea is cold). I notice a few instances where my comments have been excised from a status update. That prompted me to read a few articles on Facebook etiquette. I hope I’ve not breached them with my preaching.
Other than these little stray thoughts, it’s a quiet evening here in Hootersville.
